Learning to Read the Signs of Invisible Violence // Women and Rights
Topics Covered
The article “Invisible Violence” focuses on the subtle forms of abuse that women are subjected to on a daily basis. Through a reflection that spans the historical roots of Western thought — from Greek logos, through the legacy of the Roman Empire and the influence of Christianity — the text highlights how gender-based violence does not manifest solely in physical acts, but also creeps in through psychological and cultural mechanisms. Along this path, the article stresses the urgency of recognizing these dynamics in order to counter them with targeted actions, which should include not only legal and healthcare measures, but also a profound shift in collective awareness.
In parallel, the article “Women and Rights” by Concetta Guarino delves into the historical journey of women’s legal achievements in Italy. While celebrating significant legislative milestones — such as the recognition of femicide and other laws protecting women — the author points out that these measures, being mostly reactive, are not sufficient to bridge the cultural gap that continues to relegate women to subordinate roles. Guarino emphasizes the need for a cultural shift to accompany legal transformation, where education and training become essential tools for preventing gender-based violence and promoting true emancipation.
